Eastern religions and gurus came to America and some western individuals went to the East; or made believe they did for the prestige. In the 1960s, even the Beatles had a guru!

Well, looking over literature from back then, it looks to me like lots of people were in love with playing the guru role. Even if they had make up a history and lineage to boot!

I think people are still doing it. Not only Westerners emulating Easterners, but traditional clergy and religious members too!

Do any of them care about the truth? I mean, Does it rate above people's desires to be seen as Godmen & Godwomen? Like, Do they even pay attention to the truth?

Maybe the plain truth would prevent so many frauds and fictions ... so people (not everybody) learn to ignore it?

Hey T.T.
Dewey Cox was from Alabama. Do you think he might have been related to the American guru Jan Cox from Georgia?
;-]

Do you know if Jan Cox ever had an uncle or a cousin cut in half by a machete?

Ask a member of the Jan Cox group.
They also will this not know.

Yes, people still want gurus. I can't help feeling that every time
there's a federal US election! There's plenty of mania around then too.
Go on, someone try and tell me voters make objective, sober assessments
of who to vote for and there's no demagoguery by candidates!

People do it all the time. I was just reading about those poor people
who get sucked into signing up for those "binary trading" scams, for
bitcoin, shares or whatever. They so *want* to believe they've at least
been smart enough to find out who they should follow... this economic
adviser, this business leader, that pundit... it's not for nothing every
2nd promo website calls them "economic gurus!" It's just someone to get
behind, someone to trust to do your thinking for you. There must be so
many people out there too afraid to make their own decisions that they'd
rather find someone to do it for them... not only that but to really
*believe* in them. If that "guru" dupes or fails them, or misleads them
somehow, then they turn to the next most reliable foible of human nature
- the Scapegoat!

This is why I prefer animals. Actually I prefer not to call them that,
there are some people who are so bad they give non-humans a bad name.
Definitely a cat person. (The "Zero" part of Maplin Zero is in honour of
my favourite pet cat, now passed on. Zero was a perfect Tuxedo or
Sylvester cat, and really tiny with a very sweet nature. Like the Good
Witch of the East, she was almost the very essence of sweetness, never
out of character. Truly better company than most of the humans I knew
then or now).
